Srinagar : Police in the Kashmir Valley have initiated extensive plantation drives across various districts, demonstrating strong participation from officers and personnel at all levels. Thousands of saplings were planted at police establishments, including District Police Headquarters, Police Stations, and Police Posts, with the aim of promoting afforestation, enhancing green cover, and raising awareness about environmental conservation.
The initiative was spearheaded by IGP Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, who led a plantation drive at the District Police Office in Ganderbal, accompanied by other senior officers. They emphasized the importance of environmental protection and the collective responsibility of society in preserving natural resources for future generations. Similar drives were organized in Srinagar, Budgam, Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama, Anantnag, Kupwara, Awantipora, Sopore, and Handwara, with each district’s police leadership actively participating and promoting the significance of World Environment Day. In each district, police personnel planted a variety of saplings, reinforcing the message that environmental protection is a shared responsibility. The drives aimed not only to enhance the ecological landscape but also to encourage public participation in sustainable practices. The J&K Police reiterated their commitment to environmental preservation and community welfare, highlighting the role of such initiatives in fostering social responsibility and a cleaner, healthier future for all.
