Sopore: Police on Thursday said that it has arrested four alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Sopore and apprehended a drug consumer in Baramulla as part of the ongoing 100-day NashaMukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Police said that a police team from Police Station Sopore intercepted three suspects in the Badambagh area during routine patrolling. The trio allegedly attempted to flee but were apprehended, and a search led to the recovery of 150 bottles of codeine-based syrup. Police identified the accused as Irfan Ahmad Peer, Ajaz Ahmad Mattoo and Umer Zahoor Najar, all residents of Badambagh.
In another operation, police at Sangrama-Seer Crossing apprehended a suspect identified as Majid Ashraf Khan of Peth Seer and recovered Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus capsules from his possession.
Meanwhile, in Tangmarg, police apprehended a man during routine checking after he was found in a suspicious condition. During his search, police recovered items associated with narcotics consumption. According to Police statement the accused was subjected to a medical examination and tested positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), indicating recent consumption of cannabis-based substances. Cases under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act have been registered and investigations are underway.
