Over 12,000 non-farm enterprises to come up in six new blocks

Srinagar, :Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday approved six Detailed Project Reports worth ₹36 crore under the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) aimed at promoting rural entrepreneurship and non-farm livelihood opportunities across the Union Territory.

The approval was accorded during a meeting of the UT-Level Steering Committee chaired by Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Mohammad Aijaz Asad.

Officials said the projects would cover six new SVEP blocks — Sogam-Wavoora, Pulwama-Litter, Chadoora-Surasyar, Khour-Paragwal, Pouni-Reasi and Bhadarwah-Bhalla — where more than 12,000 enterprises are expected to be established over the next four years.

The projects will focus on sectors including walnut processing, trout fish processing, sheep wool processing, eco-tourism, saffron value addition, herbal tea production, honey processing and vermi-composting.

The Secretary directed officials to prioritise economically viable enterprises backed by strong market linkages and value-addition opportunities to ensure sustainable livelihoods for rural youth and women.

Officials informed the meeting that over 26,500 enterprises have already been supported under NRLM and SVEP initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir so far.
