Ganderbal, May 19: Ahead of Eid al-Adha, residents of Ganderbal have urged the district administration to regulate the prices of sacrificial animals, alleging that livestock sellers are charging exorbitant and arbitrary rates in local markets.
Residents said the absence of any official monitoring mechanism has allowed traders to fix prices at their own discretion, placing an added financial burden on consumers ahead of the festival. They claimed that rates vary significantly from one seller to another, leaving buyers distressed during the peak festive season.
“There is no proper authority monitoring the livestock markets. Sellers are demanding prices according to their own will,” locals said while seeking immediate intervention from the administration.
The residents appealed to the District Administration Ganderbal to issue an official rate list for sacrificial animals and deploy market checking teams to ensure transparency and fairness in livestock markets.
They further urged the authorities to take timely measures to prevent profiteering and provide relief to the public ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
