Vikramjit Singh reviews implementation of NMBA in Pulwama

Srinagar  Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Vikramjit Singh, who is the District Mentor for overseeing the implementation of NashaMukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan in Pulwama district, Saturday chaired a meeting to review implementation of the activities being conducted under the NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) in the district.

While reviewing the activities, the Commissioner Secretary highlighted the need to sensitise youth regarding the harmful effects of drug abuse and emphasised the importance of preventive awareness at the grassroots level. He further directed the departments to make effective use of audio-visual means including documentaries, short films and testimonials of rehabilitated victims for impactful outreach and wider public awareness.

Emphasising the importance of community participation, Vikramjit Singh directed the concerned departments to intensify awareness programmes, outreach activities and youth engagement initiatives across educational institutions and rural as well as urban areas of the district.

He called for coordinated efforts among the administration, police, civil society and community stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the NashaMukt Abhiyan and to make it a mass movement.

The officers on the occasion also informed regarding various activities being conducted under NMBA including awareness programmes, counselling sessions, sports activities, pledge ceremonies, padyatras, signature campaigns and community outreach programmes across different zones and institutions of the district.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, briefed regarding the department-wise activities being carried out across the district under the ongoing campaign. The Deputy Commissioner apprised of the district action plan, activities conducted by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, involvement of SHG members, revitalisation of youth clubs and their trainings, constitution of MahilaNigrani Samitis in Panchayats and urban wards, participation of religious leaders and elderly clubs besides drug de-addiction and counselling facilities available in the district along with rehabilitation and follow-up mechanisms for affected individuals.

On the occasion, Senior Superintendent of Pulwama, Tanushree and Senior Superintendent of Police Awantipora, Sajad Ahmad Shah, also apprised the chair regarding the enforcement measures and anti-drug operations being undertaken in the district to curb the menace of drug abuse.

Later, the Commissioner Secretary visited Sports Stadium Pulwama to take stock of the arrangements being put in place in connection with the mega padyatra and the forthcoming VVIP visit to Pulwama scheduled on May 19.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulwama; and senior officers from Civil Administration and Police.
