Srinagar : Under the aegis of NALSA and the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, the 2nd National Lok Adalat 2026 was successfully conducted across multiple districts of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the amicable settlement of thousands of cases and realization of crores of rupees in compensation and recovery.
The Lok Adalat proceedings were held at District Court Complexes and taluka courts, under the supervision of respective Chairpersons of District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs), with participation from judicial officers, panel lawyers, LADCs, revenue officials, and members of the Bar.
Across districts, dedicated benches were constituted to ensure swift disposal of cases relating to civil disputes, bank recovery, MACT claims, matrimonial issues, traffic challans, revenue matters, electricity bills, BSNL disputes, labour cases, and other compoundable offences.
In Budgam, 1,023 cases were taken up, out of which 585 were settled, realizing Rs 91.44 lakh. In Anantnag, 574 out of 850 cases were resolved, with over Rs 1.03 crore awarded as settlement amount. In Kulgam, 277 cases were settled out of 375, amounting to Rs 44.38 lakh. In Shopian, 210 cases were resolved out of 390, with settlements exceeding Rs 59.24 lakh.
Baramulla recorded one of the highest disposals, where 1,169 cases were amicably settled out of 1,407, with a total settlement amount of over Rs 1.14 crore. In Bandipora, multiple benches comprising judicial and executive members facilitated large-scale resolution of cases across various categories.
Overall, across Jammu and Kashmir, thousands of cases were disposed of through mutual consent, significantly reducing pendency and ensuring speedy, cost-effective and accessible justice for litigants.
Judicial authorities across districts emphasized that the Lok Adalat mechanism continues to strengthen alternative dispute resolution in the Union Territory by promoting amicable settlements and reducing litigation burden on regular courts.
