Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan registers major impact across J&K

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Administration has achieved significant progress under the ongoing 100 Days “NashaMukt J&K Abhiyan”, reflecting a comprehensive whole-of-government approach to combat drug abuse, strengthening rehabilitation mechanisms and intensifying enforcement against narcotics networks across Jammu and Kashmir.

The campaign has also witnessed unprecedented success from the start till Saturday, with significant public participation and institutional coordination involving departments of Health, Social Welfare,Information, Police, Education, and other allied agencies.

Under the campaign, Massive Public Outreach and Awareness programmes are being organised with a total of 2,16,123 awareness events conducted across Jammu and Kashmir, involving more than one crore participants.The extensive awareness drive included  series of mega Padyatras, school and college programmes, village-level campaigns, youth engagement activities, seminars, rallies,sports and cultural events, community interactions aimed at sensitizing the public regarding the harmful effects of drug abuse.

The Counselling and Mental Health Support has also been strengthened with Tele-MANAS counselling initiative receiving 2,786 calls, indicating growing public trust in institutional mental health and addiction support systems.

Under the campaign, the Treatment and Rehabilitation Facilities have also been enhanced with the Health Department’s Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs) treating 44,602 patients during the campaign period, including 44,263 OPD patients and 339 IPD admissions.  148 patients have been successfully cured and released after treatment.

Simultaneously, Social Welfare Department-operated DDAC Rehabilitation Centres received 441 patients, while 742 individuals underwent counselling sessions. Additionally, 18 patients fully recovered, with rehabilitation support continuing for active beneficiaries. Police-run DDAC counselling and rehabilitation support centres also registered encouraging outcomes, with 451 patients registered, 786 counselled and 138 individuals successfully recovered.

Under the campaign, the administration has also intensified Crackdown on Drug Networks. J&K Police has significantly intensified anti-narcotics enforcement under the NDPS Act, with 614 FIRs  registered, 646 persons arrested, 435 drug peddlers apprehended and 160 drug hotspots identified.

As part of stringent deterrence measures under the campaign,  37 houses linked to drug peddlers were sealed/demolished, immovable properties worth approximately ₹25.97 crore were seized/attached, additional properties worth ₹3.70 crore were demolished, besides Movable properties worth ₹1.67 crore have also been seized.

The authorities have also acted firmly against misuse of transport and pharmaceutical channels linked to narcotics activities during the campaign.  252 driving licenses have been cancelled, 111 vehicle registrations cancelled, 104 drug store licenses suspended, besides 2 drug store licenses cancelled.

During the ongoing campaign, significant Narcotics seizures have also been made with Security and enforcement agencies seizing substantial quantities of narcotic substances including 3.8 kg heroin, 32.92 kg charas, 222.31 kg ganja, besides 21 marlas of illegal poppy cultivation were also destroyed during the campaign.

The surveillance and preventive measures have also been expanded to strengthen community monitoring. 3,067 chemist shops were inspected, 2,815 CCTV cameras have been installed at vulnerable locations, besides 977 schools and hospitals were checked as part of preventive vigilance measures

The Administration is also taking Intelligence-Based action with Law enforcement and intelligence agencies examining 107 suspects, 2,807 peddlers identified, and 11 PIT-NDPS detentions carried out under preventive detention laws.

The Administration has reiterated its firm commitment to realizing the vision of a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir through sustained public participation, robust enforcement, youth engagement, rehabilitation support and coordinated institutional action.

The administration has appealed to citizens, community leaders, educational institutions, religious organizations, and civil society groups to continue supporting the “NashaMukt J&K Abhiyan” and help safeguard the future of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
