KMCH Sempora organizes medical camp with special focus on mental health at BOMIS Pampore

Srinagar: As part of its extensive public outreach programme, Kashmir Medical College and Hospital (KMCH), Sempora, on Saturday organised a free medical camp at Birla Open Minds International School (BOMIS), Pampore, with a special emphasis on mental health awareness and counselling among students.
Executive Director KMCH, Insha Qazi, who was present at the event, was felicitated by Principal of BOMIS Pampore, Dr. Mehnaz Rehman, who appreciated KMCH for organising such a meaningful and student-centric medical camp.
Speaking on the occasion, the Executive Director said that while district hospitals remain a priority as reflected in previous camps held in Pulwama and Kulgam, the institution is increasingly focusing on educational institutions, where children and adolescents have significant and often overlooked healthcare needs, particularly mental health.
She added that such outreach programmes aim to improve overall community health and ensure access to quality healthcare services, with a growing emphasis on the mental well-being of children and young students.
Specialist doctors from KMCH provided free consultations, with OPD services available across multiple specialties, including Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, General Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Dentistry, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Orthopaedics, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Medicines were also distributed free of cost among the students.
The Executive Director reiterated that the institution remains committed to delivering patient-centric, affordable, and quality healthcare, especially to underprivileged sections of society.
The camp, part of a massive community outreach initiative, aimed at providing children with basic medical check-ups in a school setting, ensuring their overall health and well-being, and promoting early detection of potential health concerns.
A key highlight of the camp was the dedicated mental health counselling sessions conducted by a team of psychiatrists and mental health professionals with the teenagers.
Recognising that adolescents today often face stress, anxiety, academic pressure, and emotional challenges, the team engaged students in interactive and supportive sessions, encouraging them to speak openly about their concerns.
These sessions underscored the importance of mental health awareness among teenagers and emphasised early intervention and stigma reduction. Students were guided on coping mechanisms, emotional resilience, and the importance of seeking help when needed, thereby fostering a more supportive and understanding environment around mental well-being.
The organising team of doctors and staff members of KMCH worked tirelessly throughout the day to ensure the smooth conduct and success of the programme.
Nearly 2,000 students benefitted from free consultations, with the dedicated team ensuring that no child was left unattended.
The initiative was widely appreciated by the school administration, parents, and the local community, who lauded KMCH for its continued commitment to holistic healthcare.
The camp not only addressed physical ailments but also played a crucial role in promoting mental well-being, paving the way for a healthier, more aware, and resilient younger generation.
