Srinagar, May 1: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested a Head Constable in Srinagar in a trap case for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 from a complainant.

An official spokesperson said that the ACB received a written complaint alleging that Head Constable Parvaiz Ahmad Rather, posted in district Srinagar, had demanded ₹15,000 for removing the complainant’s name from the list of accused in FIR No. 09/2026 registered at Police Station Soura.

He said the allegations were discreetly verified by a designated officer, during which it surfaced that the accused had initially demanded ₹50,000, which was later settled at ₹15,000.

“On the basis of the complaint and verification report, a case FIR No. 08/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar,” the spokesperson said.

He added that a trap team was constituted and laid a successful trap, during which the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount near District Police Lines Srinagar.

“The bribe amount comprising ₹5,000 in cash and ₹10,000 through cheque was recovered on the spot,” he said, adding that further investigation into the case is underway.
