Jammu : The Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Jammu, on Tuesday concluded the 11th National Conference and Exhibition on Emerging and Innovative Trends in Engineering Technology (NCEEITET), with a strong focus on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in tourism development in Jammu and Kashmir.
The two-day conference, organised in technical collaboration with IIT Kharagpur, brought together academicians, industry experts, policymakers and students from across the country to deliberate on emerging trends, foster innovation and explore new research avenues in engineering and technology.
The valedictory session was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary, Power Development Department, Ashwani Kumar, and featured prize distribution and award ceremonies.
Addressing the gathering, Ashwani Kumar described the conference as a significant platform for promoting innovation, research and interdisciplinary collaboration. He appreciated the technology exhibits showcased by students and termed them innovative and engaging.
He said practical exposure and technological advancement are essential for realising the vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat.
Referring to the conference theme, “Application of AI and ML in Tourism Development in Jammu & Kashmir,” the ACS said modern technologies can play a transformative role in tourism planning, destination management and enhancing visitor experience.
He added that every government department today requires technical solutions to improve efficiency, and institutions like GCET Jammu can play a key role in offering innovations for sectors such as power, tourism and infrastructure.
Managing Director, JKPDC, Rahul Yadav, who was the guest of honour, shared insights on the use of emerging technologies in the power sector. He encouraged students to work on practical, solution-oriented engineering challenges.
Prof. Raja Dutta and Prof. Prabir Kumar Biswas from IIT Kharagpur stressed the need for a multidisciplinary approach to align technology with socio-economic development. They also praised the talent and enthusiasm of GCET students and assured support for future research initiatives.
The conference featured technical sessions, expert talks, panel discussions, paper presentations and a technology exhibition showcasing cutting-edge ideas and innovations.
Several reputed organisations including NHPC, CVPPL, NTPC, PFC, NIELIT, BSNL, IEX, Schneider Electric, Patel Engineering Ltd, JKPDC, J&K Bank, JAKEDA and others participated and displayed exhibits in their respective domains.
Dr.Sameru Sharma, Principal/Director GCET, said the knowledge shared and connections built during the conference would significantly contribute to future research and professional growth of participants.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by coordinator Er. Sheetal Gandotra, followed by a colourful cultural programme presented by students.
