Kupwara : An awareness-cum-training programme for sheep breeders was organised at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kupwara to promote scientific livestock practices and strengthen rural livelihoods. The programme was held under the supervision of Dr G M Bhat in collaboration with MRCSG Shuhama and the Division of Livestock Production & Technology, SKUAST-K.
Officials said the event witnessed significant participation from sheep breeders across the district, reflecting growing interest in modern and sustainable farming practices. Experts delivered lectures on breed improvement, scientific feeding, disease control, housing management, and value addition of sheep products, with a focus on enhancing productivity and income.
Officers from the Sheep Husbandry Department Kupwara also interacted with farmers, sharing information on government schemes, healthcare, vaccination, and management practices. An interactive session allowed participants to raise field-level issues, with experts offering practical solutions.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bhat emphasised the need to integrate scientific knowledge with traditional practices to improve outcomes in livestock farming. He said such programmes are vital for transferring technology to the grassroots level and boosting rural economy.
Officials said the initiative aims to empower farmers through knowledge dissemination and strengthen sustainable livestock development in the region.
