Jammu:Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the status of desiltation and cleaning of kuls (minor irrigation canals) in Jammu division.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) Jammu, Director Rural Development Jammu and other concerned officers. Former Minister Sukhnandan Choudhary, who had recently highlighted the issue of cleaning and maintenance of minor canals, also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the Minister held detailed discussions on the present status of desiltation works and the measures required to ensure timely cleaning of all kuls to facilitate smooth irrigation for farmers. He stressed that proper maintenance of irrigation channels is essential for safeguarding agricultural productivity and supporting rural livelihoods.

Javed Rana assured that the Government is committed to addressing the issue on priority and directed the concerned departments to accelerate desiltation works and prepare a comprehensive plan to ensure regular maintenance of irrigation canals across the region.

The Minister further instructed the officers to maintain close coordination and ensure that farmers receive uninterrupted irrigation facilities during the ongoing agricultural season.

He reiterated that the Government remains dedicated to strengthening irrigation infrastructure and addressing the concerns of the farming community in a time-bound manner.
