Zero Tolerance Against Narcotics: Five drug peddlers arrested in Anantnag

Anantnag Police has intensified its drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse across the district, yielding significant results with the arrest of five drug peddlers in three separate cases.

In the first incident, a police party from Police Station Kokernag during naka checking at Hangulgund Kokernag apprehended one individual identified as Nazir Ahmad Dar S/o Ab. Gani Dar R/o Bumdoora Kokernag. During his personal search, 7.84 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, Case FIR No. 25/2026 under section 8/21 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Kokernag.

In another operation, a police party from Police Station Dooru intercepted a Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK02AW-1305 during naka checking. Two persons on board, including the driver identified as Ajaz Ahmad Tantray S/o Manzoor Ahmad Tantray R/o Kapran A/P Anchidora Anantnag and Rayees Ahmad Sheikh S/o Bashir Ahmad Sheikh R/o Khreti, Larnoo, were apprehended. During search, 5.91 grams of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from their possession. A case under relevant provisions of law has been registered and investigation is underway.

In a third incident, a police party from Police Post Khanabal during naka checking at Harnag Crossing apprehended two persons identified as Suhail Ahmad Bhat S/o Gh. Qadir Bhat R/o Krangsoo Mattan and Umer Khan S/o Ab. Rehman Khan R/o Reasi. During their personal search, approximately 02 grams of heroin-like contraband substance was recovered. In this regard, Case FIR No. 104/2026 under sections 8/21-29 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Anantnag.

Anantnag Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug menace and urges the general public to cooperate and share any information related to drug peddling for the safety and well-being of the society.
