US President Donald Trump on Thursday claimed that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, aimed at paving the way for lasting peace between the two countries.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he held “excellent conversations” with Joseph Aoun and Benjamin Netanyahu, during which both leaders agreed to formally begin a ceasefire at 5 p.m. EST.
He further stated that representatives from Israel and Lebanon met for the first time in 34 years in Washington, D.C., in the presence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to Trump, he has directed Vice President JD Vance and senior military leadership, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine, to work closely with both nations to achieve a lasting peace agreement.
“It has been my honor to solve nine wars across the world, and this will be my tenth,” Trump said in the post, expressing optimism about ending hostilities between the two countries.
There was no immediate official confirmation from Israeli or Lebanese authorities regarding the ceasefire announcement.
