Probe underway; samples collected to determine cause
G’bal : A large number of fish have been found dead in a spring in Beehama area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, prompting concerns among residents over possible water contamination.
Locals said the incident came to light weeks ago when fish carcasses were seen floating on the surface. The number of dead fish has since increased, raising fears about the condition of the water body.
Residents expressed concern that the water may be polluted and could affect both aquatic life and human use. Teams from the Environmental Science Department and the Fisheries Department visited the site and collected samples for laboratory analysis. Officials said the cause of the fish deaths will be known only after detailed testing. Residents have urged authorities to expedite the investigation, conduct water quality checks, and take steps to prevent further damage.
