Srinagar, Apr 8: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remained blocked again on Wednesday following a heavy landslide at Shalgari in Banihal area of Ramban district, officials said.
According to Traffic Police, the road was completely blocked early morning after debris and mudslides hit the highway, halting vehicular movement on the vital link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.
An official said that despite continuous efforts, the highway continued to remain closed, with road clearance work underway at the affected site. “The restoration is in progress, but it may take some time as rainfall is continuing along the stretch,” he said.
Authorities have advised commuters not to travel on NH-44 until the road is fully restored, citing safety concerns.
Traffic Police also urged people not to pay heed to rumours and to follow verified updates through official social media handles.
Meanwhile, Traffic Control Units (TCUs) across Jammu, Srinagar, and Ramban have been activated to assist stranded passengers and provide real-time updates.
