Srinagar: Insha Mushtaq, the teenage girl completely blinded by pellets fired by government forces during the 2016 uprising in Kashmir, has qualified her class 10 examination.
The results of the examination were declared Tuesday. Insha was blinded bilaterally after a barrage of pellets hit her, while she was watching protests from a window of her home at Sedow village.
Reacting on the result, her father Mushtaq Ahmad Lone said “happiness of our family knew no bounds”.
“This (result) is beyond our expectations. The results will inspire Insha to study more,” he said. According to her result, Insha will have to appear in Mathematics paper again. She has been declared qualified with a note that “she needs to improve’.
The image of Insha whose pellet ridden face had gone viral on social networking sites, overcame her disability and took her tenth class examination.
The examination helper was a student of a class lower than Insha’s and selected by authorities to write her papers on the basis of dictations by Insha.
Insha was grievously injured on the evening of 12th July 2016 at her residence in Sedow, Shopian, when a patrol party of government forces fired pellets at the window of her house where she was standing. The injuries resulted in total blindness in both her eyes, apart from a long ordeal of recovery from brain hemorrhages and skull fractures.
In February last year, Insha returned to her home after months of treatment at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital Mumbai and many other hospitals for brain infection and surgeries that attempted to bring back some vision in her left eye.
Her right eye was completely eviscerated due to the injury. A tutor had come to her house every day, read aloud to her from the books and Insha recorded what he narrated. Later, she would play the recording, try to comprehend and remember it.
Hurriyat (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Tuesday congratulated Insha Mushtaq, a teenager who was blinded by pellets in 2016 uprising for clearing her board examinations, the results of which were declared Tuesday.
In a tweet, Umar said: “Congratulations to brave Insha Mushtaq on clearing her class 10 exams. Despite going through the trauma of losing her eye sight due to pellets, she has managed an amazing feat. Her determination and resilience is an example for everyone. May Allah bless her always!” Insha was blinded bilaterally after a barrage of pellets hit her, while she was watching protests from a window of her home at Sedow village. Reacting on the result, her father Mushtaq Ahmad Lone told Greater Kashmir that their “happiness knew no bounds”
Former chief minister and MLA Beerwah Omar Abdullah has also congratulated Insha Mushtaq, a teenager who was blinded by pellets in 2016 uprising for clearing her tenth board examinations, the results of which were declared Tuesday.
In a tweet, Abdullah said: “A special shout out to young Insha who was blinded by pellets during the 2016 protests & has cleared her 10th exams Tuesday. May Allah keep rewarding your hard work & efforts. In an another tweet, Abdullah also congratulated all tenth class successful candidates. “Congratulations to all the boys & girls who cleared their Class 10 exams in J&K. Good luck for the future & I hope you continue to pursue your education,” he tweeted.
