In view of the ongoing crisis in West Asia, the Centre has reduced central excise duty on petrol and diesel meant for domestic consumption by ₹10 per litre each, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Friday.
In a post on X, Sitharaman said the move is aimed at shielding consumers from a potential surge in fuel prices triggered by global uncertainties. She emphasized that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has consistently taken steps to protect citizens from fluctuations in supply and rising costs of essential commodities.
The Finance Minister further stated that export duties have been imposed to ensure adequate domestic availability of fuel. Duty on diesel exports has been fixed at ₹21.5 per litre, while aviation turbine fuel (ATF) exports will attract a duty of ₹29.5 per litre.
She added that the Parliament has been duly notified about these measures.
