Srinagar : Indian Oil Corporation on Wednesday sought to allay concerns over a possible shortage of petrol and diesel, dismissing reports circulating on social media as “rumours” and asserting that supplies remain adequate across its network.
In an advisory, the state-run oil major said all its outlets are functioning normally and have sufficient stock, even as speculation around fuel availability has grown in the backdrop of ongoing global developments.
“Rumours about petrol and diesel shortages are circulating on social media. Please do not believe or spread them,” the company said, urging citizens to rely only on official communication.
The statement also cautioned against panic buying, noting that such behaviour could itself disrupt otherwise stable supply chains. “There is no need for panic buying. Citizens are urged to stay calm and maintain normal purchasing patterns,” it said.
The clarification comes amid heightened public anxiety, with unverified claims online fuelling concerns over potential disruptions.
IndianOil emphasised that supply chains remain stable and that adequate measures are in place to meet demand across the country.
The advisory also underscored the role of misinformation in amplifying uncertainty, warning that the spread of unverified reports could lead to unnecessary strain on distribution systems.
Authorities, the company said, continue to monitor the situation, reiterating that there is no immediate shortage of petrol or diesel.
