Ganderbal :District Administration Ganderbal Monday launched a special week-long campaign, ‘VandeMataram Week’, to commemorate 150 years of the National Song and pay tribute to the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters.

The campaign, scheduled from March 23 to March 30, 2026, began with observance of Shaheed Diwas (Martyrs’ Day), remembering the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

The inaugural programmes were held at Mini Secretariat Ganderbal and Sub-Division Kangan with active participation of various departments.

At the main function held at Mini Secretariat Ganderbal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal, Syed Fahim Bihaqi presided over the event. The programme was attended by Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Chief Education Officer, DySP Ganderbal, Zonal Education Officer Tulamulla and other officers and officials.

Addressing the gathering, the ADC threw light on the sacrifices of the martyrs who laid down their precious lives for freedom struggle. He appreciated the coordinated efforts of all departments and police for successfully organising the programme. He said such initiatives reflect the district’s commitment towards promoting national values and participation in important national campaigns.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Education Officer, Oneel Kumar Bhat said that today, as we observe Shaheed Diwas, we honor the profound sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, who gave their lives for our nation’s sovereignty.

Addressing the students, he said youth are the architects of our future, adding”It is your responsibility to cherish the freedom we have inherited and to serve as the pillars upon which a stronger, more vibrant nation is built. Let us ensure that the legacy of our martyrs continues to inspire every step we take toward progress.”

Students from various educational institutions, including Misha Model School and Crescent Public School, participated in the programme and delivered speeches on the theme, highlighting the importance of the National Song and the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle.

Meanwhile, a series of activities will be organised throughout the week across district, tehsil and institutional levels. These include cultural programmes, awareness activities and student engagements aimed at promoting the historical significance of the National Song and fostering a spirit of patriotism among the people, especially the youth.
