PULWAMA, MARCH 08: District Administration Pulwama in collaboration with Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Pulwama today celebrated International Women’s Day as Nari Neer Shakti Divas at Circuit House Pulwama.

The event was organised to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of women in society and recognise their pivotal role as leaders and stakeholders in drinking water governance and community development.

During the programme, various officers, experts and women entrepreneurs shared their experiences and insights, highlighting the significant achievements of women across different sectors.

Resource persons emphasised the vital role of women as decision-makers in water governance and highlighted the link between safe drinking water, improved health and nutrition outcomes, and women’s dignity and empowerment.

They also highlighted the increasing participation of women as leaders in village-level water sanitation committees (Pani Samitis) and stressed the importance of strengthening women’s involvement in planning, management and monitoring of water resources at the grassroots level.

Additionally, a demonstration on the use of Field Test Kits (FTKs) was conducted on the occasion to promote awareness regarding testing of drinking water quality.

On the occasion, a Women Entrepreneurship and Self-Help Group (SHG) Mela was also organised under Mission YUVA to promote women-led enterprises and encourage entrepreneurship among women across the district. The mela provided a platform for Self-Help Groups and women entrepreneurs to showcase their locally produced goods and highlighted the growing role of women in strengthening the local economy.

The programme concluded with a felicitation ceremony wherein outstanding women achievers from various sectors were felicitated for their exemplary contributions towards community welfare and social development.

The event also marked the beginning of Jal Mahotsav Pakhwada, which will be observed from March 8 to March 22 under Jal Jeevan Mission across the district. The pakhwada aims to scale up ongoing community-led initiatives as part of the nationwide programme “Jal Mahotsav” and aligns with the spirit of Jan Bhagidari in water management, building upon flagship initiatives such as Har Ghar Jal and Jal Arpan.

Among others, the event was attended by Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Pulwama; District Social Welfare Officer, Pulwama; officials from various departments including Social Welfare, Education, Employment and Jal Shakti, besides members of the DPMU Team Pulwama, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, FTK trained women and women members of Pani Samitis.
