Baramulla : Police on Wednesday said that it has seized six sand-laden tippers during a routine checking drive at Delina and booked their drivers for allegedly transporting minerals without valid documents.
Officials said the naka was laid by Police Post Delina as part of an ongoing drive against illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in the district. During inspection, the drivers of the intercepted vehicles failed to produce valid royalty permits required for lawful transport of sand. The vehicles seized during the drive bear registration numbers: JK04B-3027, JK01AJ-6218, JK05B-5756, JK05D-6029, JK05B-6298 and JK05B-6955. Police said action has been initiated under Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, which provides for penalties in cases of illegal mining and transportation. Further legal proceedings have been taken as per law.
An officer said such drives are being conducted regularly to check violations and prevent unauthorized mining activities that cause environmental degradation and revenue loss to the government. Reiterating its commitment to curb illegal extraction and transport of minerals, Baramulla Police said strict action will continue against violators.
