Night chill intensifies in Kashmir, Ladkah; day temp improves

Srinagar: Chilly weather conditions have intensified across Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, where majority of the places recorded coldest night of the season so far though day temperature improved due to sunshine.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI that weather will remain dry during the next 48 hours, which could result in further dip in the night temperature.
The border town of Kargil in Ladakh region was the coldest place in the region after mercury settled at minus 18.8 degree.
Leh recorded night of the season so far after mercury further plunged a degree from Saturday and settled at minus 16.8 degree.
The world famous Dal Lake was frozen, particularly near the banks on Sunday, as summer capital, Srinagar recorded coldest night of the winter so far after the mercury dipped five degree from Saturday and settled at minus 6 degree.
Water taps and other water bodies including nallahs and drains were also frozen in the city, where sun greeted people in the morning, resulting in some improvement in the temperature though icy cold winds that continued.
The night temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where ski slopes are under several feet of snow, remained constant since Saturday at minus 9.4 degree, which is over 2 degree below normal.
Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir, tourist resort of Kokernag also recorded coldest night of the season so far at minus 4.6 degree, 4.6 degree and 4.4 degree, respectively.
The mercury at Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, dipped and settled at minus 8.9 degree, against minus 8.4 degree recorded on Saturday.
