Srinagar | Feb, 27: Police on Friday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in North Kashmir and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued here on Friday Police said that a police team from Police Post Palhallan apprehended a suspect, Mohd Ahsan Ganaie, at a checkpoint near Government Primary School in Gundbal. The suspect attempted to flee upon noticing the police but was captured. During his search 115 grams of a charas-like substance, a mobile phone, and cash totaling ₹40,000 was recovered from the possession of the said accused. In a separate incident in Sopore Police intercepted a truck driven by Shamdin at a checkpoint in Naseerabad, Chinkipora. A significant quantity of poppy straw was seized during the search. Cases have been registered under relevant legal sections to investigate the sources and broader connections related to these drug offenses. Police in its statement reiterated its commitment to zero-tolerance towards drug trafficking and law enforcement for protection of youth from dangers of drugs.
