Srinagar : Police on Thursday said said that it has seized seven tractors involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals in the Zainapora and Turkwangam areas of Shopian district.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Police said that during routine patrols, a police team from Police Station Zainapora intercepted a tractor involved in illegal mineral extraction without valid royalty documents. An FIR (No. 16/2026) has been registered, and further investigations are underway. Additionally, another police party from Police Post Turkwangam apprehended six tractors involved in similar illegal mining activities in the Sugan and Turkwangam areas. FIRs No. 17/2026 and 18/2026 have been filed at Police Station Zainapora, with investigations also initiated for these cases. In its statement police reiterated its commitment to safeguard district’s natural resources and enforcing strict legal measures against illegal mining, appealing people therein to report any unlawful activities, assuring that the identities of informants will remain confidential and that stringent actions will be taken against offenders.
