Srinagar : Adopting a calm and measured tone, the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has responded to concerns raised by MLA Zadibal regarding the recent reconstruction and beautification works at Dargah Hazratbal, stating that the sanctity of the shrine and the sentiments of devotees remain its highest priority.
In a statement issued here on Thursday the The Waqf Board reaffirmed the significance of the Moi-e-Muqaddas, the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as the most sacred treasure of the Dargah Hazratbal. The Board emphasized that all actions taken at the shrine are guided by a profound sense of reverence and responsibility, reflecting the deep emotional connection many have with this holy site. In response to recent changes, including the installation of new chandeliers, the Board clarified that these decisions were made with careful consideration of structural safety, preservation needs, and aesthetic harmony. The new chandelier, adorned with Quranic verses, aims to enhance the spiritual atmosphere while preserving the shrine’s traditional character. Importantly, the Board assured that all removed fixtures, including the old chandelier, have been preserved and stored properly, ensuring that no items of historical or sentimental value have been lost. The Board acknowledged the right of elected representatives to inquire about these changes but urged sensitivity regarding discussions about religious institutions. It highlighted that Dargah Hazratbal is more than just a physical structure; it represents a symbol of faith for millions.
The Board called for unity and collective responsibility in discussions about the shrine’s upkeep. The renovation and beautification efforts were undertaken to provide better facilities, enhance safety, and create a serene environment for devotees. Public feedback has been largely positive, with many visitors appreciating the improved atmosphere. The Board expressed hope that these matters would not become politicized, emphasizing that faith should transcend divisions and debates. Their primary goal remains to serve the shrine and its devotees with sincerity and transparency. In conclusion, the Waqf Board reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the sanctity of the Holy Relic and preserving the spiritual legacy of Dargah Hazratbal, while continuing to implement improvements that honor both tradition and the evolving needs of current and future generations.
