Former ministers Qamar Ali Akhoon, Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah pass away

Jammu: Senior National Conference (NC) leader Qamar Ali Akhoon and former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Devsar, Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah passed away on Friday. Both were former ministers.
Akhoon, a senior political leader from Kargil, served as NC Additional General Secretary, cabinet minister and was a former Advisor to Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah was a seasoned political leader from the Devsar constituency in south Kashmir. He was the uncle of the sitting MLA Peerzada Feroze Ahmad Shah. As Forest Minister, G A Shah was associated with initiatives related to forest conservation, environmental safeguards and administrative functioning of the department.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Speaker J&K Assembly and NC expressed condolences on the demise of the leaders.
The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has condoled the passing away of former Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon.
He has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief.
The CM recalled the contributions of both leaders to public life and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family. He remembered Qamar Ali Akhoon as a committed leader who served with dedication and humility.
The J&K Legislative Assembly also mourned the demise of former ministers. The Speaker informed the House of Akhoon’s contributions and highlighted his grassroots beginnings, then being elected unopposed as a councillor, and subsequent roles as MLA and minister in Omar Abdullah’s government, where he represented Ladakh’s aspirations.
Members across party lines paid tribute and recalled Akhoon’s efforts to voice public concerns and develop remote, high-altitude areas of Kargil.
The Assembly observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect and extended condolences to the bereaved family members
