Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has successfully solved a major theft case by arresting five accused persons and recovering a substantial portion of the stolen propertyin Budgam.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Police said that a written complaint was filed by one Mohammad Yousuf Najar at Police Station Budgam about a burglary at his residence in the night intervening January 16-17 . The complaint had said that unknown individuals forcibly entered his home and took away gold ornaments and cash. In response police registered FIR No. 12/2026 and initiated an investigation. During the investigation, a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) utilized human intelligence and analyzed CCTV footage from various locations following which five suspects involved in the crime were arrested and identified as Umar Farooq Dar, Imtiyaz Ahmad Guroo, Basit Bashir, Bilal Ahmad Dar, and Bilal Ahmad Guroo. Police recovered the stolen items including gold ornaments valued at approximately ₹11 lakh and cash amounting to ₹83 thousand. Additionally, two vehicles used in the commission of the crime were seized besides which involvement of three goldsmiths in the disposal of the stolen property was established during the investigation. The accused have been identified and charged under relevant legal provisions.
