Jammu, 4 Feb : Chief Minister today inaugurated the newly constructed 243-bedded maternity block at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, Jammu, built at a cost of ₹31.59 crore. The inauguration marks a major milestone in strengthening maternal and child healthcare infrastructure in the region.
The state-of-the-art maternity block is equipped with advanced critical care delivery services, a modern operation theatre (OT) complex, and other essential medical facilities aimed at providing comprehensive and quality healthcare to mothers and newborns. The new facility is expected to significantly reduce the patient load on existing infrastructure and enhance the overall efficiency of maternal healthcare services.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to improving public healthcare and ensuring accessible, affordable, and quality medical services for all sections of society. He said that the new maternity block will play a crucial role in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates and improving health outcomes.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Health Minister Ms. Sakina Itoo and his Advisor Mr. Nadir Sogami, along with senior health officials and medical staff, who reviewed the facilities and interacted with healthcare professionals.
The inauguration of this modern maternity block reflects the government’s continued focus on upgrading healthcare infrastructure and delivering patient-centric services across Jammu and Kashmir.
