Speaking on the occasion, the Div Com highlighted that the Sericulture sector being a viable component of the region’s economy, provides livelihood to a sizable population across the Union Territory of J&K.
He lauded the department’s efforts in adopting a multipronged approach to disseminate awareness about various schemes, facilities, and activities aimed at harnessing the full potential of the sector.
The Div Com further commended the initiative of publishing the quarterly journal for the first time. He emphasized that silkworm rearing is a cost-effective activity with high returns and stressed the need for an aggressive publicity campaign to educate people about its benefits by utilizing every available medium.
He congratulated the Director Sericulture J&K for the successful publication of the journal and expressed hope that this initiative will significantly contribute to improving the economic conditions of people in the region.
Addressing the gathering, the Director stated that the quarterly journal, being launched for the first time will henceforth be a regular feature.
Conceived as a dedicated platform, the publication aims to highlight best practices, share success stories of progressive silkworm rearers and create awareness about Centrally Sponsored Schemes and initiatives such as Silk Samagra–2 and the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) which are being proactively implemented by the Department for the benefit of stakeholders at the grassroots level.
He further emphasized that through this publication, the Department seeks to ensure that silkworm rearers, farmers, silk reeling and weaving unit holders, educated youth, women and tribal communities are well informed about schemes, subsidies, training programmes, facilities, and technical support, thereby enabling them to fully leverage the opportunities available.
On the occasion, the Director Sericulture also apprised the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir about various initiatives and programmes of the Department. He informed that special emphasis is being laid on strengthening capacity building of stakeholders through skill upgradation programmes for departmental field functionaries, exposure tours for silkworm rearers and farmers and awareness camps for educated youth, women, and tribal communities.
