Srinagar : The 77th Republic Day celebrations kicked off with great pomp and enthusiasm at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary unfurled the National Flag and took the ceremonial salute.

The event was marked by a coordinated parade featuring contingents from the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces, NCC cadets and school children, showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage and developmental milestones.

Addressing the Republic Day Parade Deputy Chief Minister (Dy CM) extended Republic Day greetings, commending the security forces and Indian Army for their dedication to national safety, particularly acknowledging the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their long-standing battle against militancy. He paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam attack, asserting that attempts by Pakistan to disrupt peace and tourism in Kashmir would not succeed, emphasizing unity among the people and security forces.

The Dy CM highlighted the significance of Republic Day as a symbol of pride and patriotism, marking the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950. He reflected on Jammu and Kashmir’s development journey, crediting leaders like Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah and Dr. Farooq Abdullah for laying a foundation of unity and progress. The government is focused on youth empowerment, implementing measures to combat drug abuse, and launching initiatives like Mission YUVA Digital Empowerment, which provides educational resources for aspiring entrepreneurs. In terms of skill development, new courses have been introduced at ITI Srinagar, with a vision to transform Jammu and Kashmir into the Skill Capital of North India by 2030. The government is also prioritizing industrial development through a Local Employment Policy to ensure job opportunities for local youth. Progress in health and education is evident, with the completion of several Degree College buildings and enhancements in medical facilities. The Dy CM discussed various initiatives aligned with the vision of Developed India by 2047, including programs in artificial intelligence and robotics, and the introduction of the ‘Design Your Degree’ initiative to empower students in their educational paths. He emphasized the importance of girls’ education, noting the provision of support for 5,000 students in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and the construction of girls’ hostels. Urban and rural development efforts are underway, with a significant number of urban projects completed, transforming infrastructure. Welfare measures have been enhanced, including pensions and free bus travel for women, benefiting many. The Dy CM also mentioned achievements in securing GI tags for traditional crafts and progress in various social initiatives. Acknowledging financial constraints and natural calamities, he expressed hope for support from the Government of India. The Dy CM called for unity and collective efforts towards peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir, assuring continued commitment from the government to address public concerns. The event featured a cultural program showcasing local talent, attended by various dignitaries and community members.
