Srinagar : Police on Sunday said that it has secured convictions in three cases of underage driving, reinforcing strict enforcement of traffic laws and accountability of parents and guardians here in Sopore.
In a statement issued here on Sunday Police said that three motor vehicles, registered as JK05P-5708, JK05N-1830, and JK05K-2552, were found being operated by minors without valid driving documents. Authorities seized the vehicles and filed charges in the Court of DMMT Sopore under the Motor Vehicles Act. Following adjudication, the registered owners, who are the parents of the minor drivers, were convicted and faced penalties, including a 12-month suspension of the vehicles’ registrations. The court also mandated that the minors would not be eligible for driving licenses until they reach the age of 25. The police have appealed parents and guardians to actively discourage underage driving, highlighting that it not only breaches legal regulations but also endangers lives and public safety. In its statement Police also reiterated its commitment to strict traffic enforcement, road safety, and public accountability, calling upon the people to cooperate in maintaining disciplined and lawful road usage in the Police District of Sopore.
