Ganderbal : In view of the forecast of snowfall, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore Thursday chaired a meeting of officers from various departments to review the preparedness and arrangements for snow clearance and other related arrangements across the district.
During the meeting, the DC took stock of the availability of snow clearance machinery, stock position of essential supplies, and the action plans put in place by concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted delivery of public services during snowfall.
Officers from R&B Ganderbal and Kangan, PMGSY, Mechanical Engineering, Municipal Council Ganderbal, BEACON, BRO, Health, Jal Shakti, KPDCL, Traffic Department and other line departments briefed the meeting on their level of preparedness.
Emphasising public convenience and safety, the DC directed the departments concerned to ensure timely deployment of men and machinery for immediate clearance of snow from main roads as well as interior link roads, stressing that no road should remain closed due to snow accumulation. He called for prompt and meticulous snow clearance operations to minimise inconvenience to the public.
He underscored the need for close coordination among departments, effective functioning of control rooms and uninterrupted supply of essential services such as electricity and water during adverse weather conditions.
The DC instructed KPDCL for adherence to the electricity supply schedule and maintenance of adequate buffer stock of distribution transformers. He further directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure timely deployment of ambulances at critical locations including Lar, Kangan, Gund and other vulnerable areas to cater to emergencies.
The DC asked Tehsildars to maintain close coordination with line departments and ensure timely redressal of public grievances. He also instructed all district officers to remain stationed within the district to ensure swift response to any situation arising due to weather vagaries.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner (Panchayat), Chief Medical Officer, Executive Engineers and other concerned officers.
