Shopian: Police on Thursday said that it has seized 830 litres of kerosence oil and 25 quintals of rice in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Police said that while acting on specific inputs anout illegal sale of subsidised kerosene oil in the black market at the Pratabpora area of Shopian, a police party from Police Station Shopian conducted a search at the shop of Shabir Ahmad Sheikh R/O Partabpora. During search, 253 litres of kerosene oil were recovered and seized Police in its statement further said that rhe accused has been arrested besides initiating further investigation.
In a separate action, a police party from Police Station Shopian conducted a raid at the shop of one Shabir Ahmad Ganie resident of Heepora Batagund. During search 577 litres of kerosene oil have been seized along with 50 bags of rice (25 quintals) from the shop of the said accused who was arrested besides which nvestigation has been initiated. Stating that cases under relevant provisions of law have been registered at Police Station Shopian Police in its statement further said that both the accused were during preliminary investigation found involved in the illegal sale of subsidised kerosene oil in the black market, adding therein that source of procurement of the subsidised kerosene oil is being investigated and officials, if found involved in facilitating the black marketing, shall be dealt with strictly as per law. In its statement Police also warned that people found indulging in illegal activities will be dealt with firmly under law, appealing therein people to cooperate and share inputs about criminal activities with concerned police units.
