Jammu : The holy occasion of Shab-e-Miraj was observed across the Kashmir Valley on Friday night with immense religious fervour and spiritual devotion, as thousands of devotees thronged mosques and shrines to participate in special prayers and night-long supplications despite the biting winter chill.
The largest congregation was witnessed at the historic Hazratbal Shrine on the banks of Dal Lake, where worshippers from different parts of the Valley gathered in large numbers. Elderly people, women and youth, wrapped in warm clothing, patiently stood in long queues to offer prayers and seek divine blessings for peace, prosperity, unity and the well-being of humanity.
Sharing his emotions, Mohammad Yousuf from Budgam said the sacred night strengthened faith and hope. “We prayed for peace in our Valley and for the welfare of all people. Such occasions remind us to remain steadfast in our beliefs,” he said.
Another devotee, Irfan Ahmad of Ganderbal, said the spiritual atmosphere brought comfort and inner strength. “When thousands pray together, it creates a powerful sense of unity. It gives relief to the heart and strengthens our connection with Allah,” he remarked.
A woman worshipper, Aasiya Jan from Srinagar, said families observe the night with deep reverence. “We pray for our children, elders and the future of our society. Such nights teach us patience, gratitude and compassion,” she added.
Meanwhile, a senior citizen from Anantnag said he has been attending the prayers for decades. “Every year, this night fills my heart with peace. It reminds us to follow truth, discipline and moral values in our daily lives,” he said.
Religious scholars and clerics highlighted the spiritual and moral significance of Shab-e-Miraj, which commemorates the miraculous night journey and ascension of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). They urged people to uphold values of honesty, brotherhood, patience and social harmony in their daily lives.
Emotional scenes were witnessed as worshippers raised their hands in collective supplication, recited verses from the Holy Quran and spent the night in remembrance and reflection.
Similar prayer gatherings were held at major shrines and local mosques across Srinagar, Ganderbal, Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara and other Districts.
