DLSA Reasi organise series of public awareness progs

People sensitized to benefits of Lok Adalat, Govt Schemes, Child rights

Reasi: Under the visionary leadership of the Chairman (also Pr. District and Sessions Judge Reasi) Khalil Choudhary and secretary Pooja Gupta, District Legal Services Authority Reasi organised an awareness program on the benefits of Lok Adalat at Katra Wednesday.

The program was conducted by PLVs of TLSC Katra. The PLVs informed the participants about the concept, functioning and advantages of Lok Adalat as an effective alternative dispute resolution mechanism. The participants were sensitized about the benefits of Lok Adalat including speedy disposal of cases, cost effective justice, amicable settlement of disputes, reduction of litigation burden and finality of awards. The PLVs also explained the types of cases that can be taken up in Lok Adalats and the procedure for referring cases for settlement.

Awareness program was organised at village Pouni to promote “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.” The program was conducted by PLVs of DLSA Reasi and TLSC Mahore. The PLVs sensitized the participants to the importance of girl child protection, education and empowerment and highlighted the objectives of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme. Emphasis was laid on changing societal attitudes, preventing gender discrimination and ensuring equal opportunities for girls.

Another awareness program was organised on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (Bal Vivah Mukat) at Auto stand Reasi. The objective of programs was to sensitize the general masses to the ill effects and legal consequences of child marriage, provisions of the Prohibition of child Marriage Act-2006 and the importance of ensuring education, health and overall development of children.

Door to door campaigns were also organised at different villages of District Reasi to educate the public about Government Schemes. The PLVs sensitized the participants to flagship welfare schemes related to social security, health, education, women and child welfare and other public benefit initiatives. The participants were also informed about the role of Legal Services Authorities in providing free legal aid and assistance to eligible persons.
