Jammu : To strengthen community-led TB prevention and care initiatives, a Pilot Training of Trainers (ToT) was organized Monday in collaboration with J&K Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM–UMEED).
The training brought together Block Programme Managers and Cluster Coordinators of JKRLM from Jammu district, who will serve as master trainers to orient Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Village Organisations (VOs) at the grassroots level. The programme aimed to equip participants with knowledge and skills on TB awareness, stigma reduction, early screening, treatment adherence and promotion of community support through Nikshay Mitra.
Speaking on the occasion, the State Tuberculosis Officer said engaging SHGs will help in early identification of TB cases, treatment support, reduction of out-of-pocket expenditure and ensuring dignity-based care for patients.
“The ToT marks the beginning of a larger convergence effort, wherein SHGs across Jammu & Kashmir will be oriented to lead village-level TB awareness activities, support referrals to government health facilities and strengthen patient support systems,” the Officer informed.
The initiative is expected to significantly boost the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan by fostering community ownership, empowering women through health leadership, and contributing toward a TB-free Jammu Division.
