Srinagar: Under the aegis of the Civic Action Programme (CAP), Police on Saturday inaugurated a Cricket Tournament for Specially-Abled Persons at Batapora Sports Stadium. The tournament features teams from across the South Kashmir range and is aimed at promoting inclusivity, sportsmanship and recognition of the exceptional talent of differently abled sportspersons.
The tournament was inaugurated by DySPHqrs Shopian Imtiyaz Ahmad-, accompanied by DySP DAR Shopian Mohd Ashraf. Addressing the participants, the officers encouraged them to play with enthusiasm, fairness and true sporting spirit. They highlighted the vital role of sports in character building, discipline and fostering a healthy lifestyle.
The officers further reiterated the commitment of J&K Police to youth engagement through such initiatives, emphasizing opportunities not only for sporting excellence but also for holistic personality development. They underlined the importance of sports in building a drug free, crime free and progressive society, stressing that active youth participation is essential for peace and prosperity in the district. The inaugural match was played between Shopian and Anantnag, with both teams displaying remarkable skill, determination and competitive spirit.
