DM, SSP B’pora hold NCORD Meeting; Review Action Against Drug Abuse

Bandipora : District Magistrate (DM) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, along with SSP, Aijaz Ahmad Zargar, Wednesday chaired a meeting of the District-Level NCORD Committee at the SSP Office, Bandipora, to review the Action Taken Report (ATR) on directions issued in the previous meeting and to strengthen efforts against drug abuse.
During the meeting, SSP Bandipora, Aijaz Ahmad Zargar, presented details of NDPS and PIT NDPS cases, FIRs registered, arrests made, commercial cases, RDA action, installation of CCTV cameras, freezing and attachment of financial assets of drug dealers, installation of GPS anklets for monitoring accused, and inspection of courier service operators. The SSP also emphasized the deployment of watchers and chowkidars in schools during winter vacations.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the proactive role of the police and stressed the need to analyse emerging hotspots, increase CCTV coverage near shops and hawkers, and ensure close coordination between the Police and the Drug Control Department during investigations. She also called for the involvement of Mohalla Committees and intensified awareness campaigns in view of the rising use of synthetic drugs.
The Deputy Director Prosecution briefed the committee on NDPS cases pending trial, acquittals, bail status, habitual offenders, and training of prosecutors.
The Excise Department shared updates on nakas, wild cannabis destruction, and awareness initiatives, while the DC directed engaging religious leaders and holding meetings at the sub-divisional level.
The Drug Control Department informed about inspections, monitoring of courier services, CCTV installation, computerized billing, and awareness activities, with directions for night and surprise inspections.
During the meeting, the Agriculture Department briefed the committee about proposed chemical control measures for wild cannabis in hotspot areas. While, Representatives from the Addiction Treatment Facility, Bandipora, also shared details of registrations.
The DC directed that necessary clearances from PCC, PHE, and the Forest Department be obtained before proceeding and asked the Chief Agriculture Officer, Bandipora, to seek expert guidance to ensure complete and environmentally safe eradication of wild cannabis.
The Deputy District Election Officer (Dy DEO) shared the progress of IEC activities under NMBA. The DC directed all departments to actively participate in upcoming IEC programmes to ensure coordinated and sustained outreach.
Among others, the meeting was attended by the Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora; Deputy District Election Officer Bandipora; Chief Medical Officer Bandipora; Chief Agriculture Officer Bandipora; District Social Welfare Officer Bandipora; District Information Officer Bandipora; Assistant Drug Controller Bandipora; Medical Officer, Addiction Treatment Facility Bandipora, and other concerned officers.
