Ganderbal : A One-Day Interaction-cum-Awareness Programme was held Monday at FrawHaknar, Kangan, under the DST–SEED funded project titled “Inclusion of Indigenous Survival Skills in Livelihood Security of Tribal Community in Kashmir”.
The programme was aimed to assess the ground-level socio-economic conditions of the tribal population while sensitising the community about structured, sustainable and cluster-based livelihood development opportunities.
The programme was led by Dr. Omar Fayaz Khan, Principal Investigator (PI) of the DST–SEED Project, along with the project staff and students, under the aegis of the Institute of Business & Policy Research (IBPR), SKUAST-Kashmir.
On the occasion, Community interactions revealed that agriculture and livestock rearing form the backbone of livelihoods in FrawHaknar, with nearly 70–80 percent of households actively engaged in agriculture and allied activities. The IBPR team assured the community of sustained engagement through regular follow-ups, capacity building and continuous technical guidance in the forthcoming phases of the project.
The programme concluded with enthusiastic participation from the tribal local community, with a significant number of tribal households expressing willingness to collaborate in groups and clusters for scaling up livelihood activities.
