Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department (HED) has proposed a 49-day winter break for degree colleges in the Kashmir division and winter zones of the Jammu division, scheduled to run from December 27 to February 14. This announcement was made by Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, the Director of Colleges, who noted that the proposal is pending approval from the competent authority. In a related development, the School Education Department (SED) had this year announced a phased winter break for various educational levels in the region. For pre-primary classes, the break is set from November 26 to February 28, 2026. Middle classes up to the 8th standard will observe their winter vacation from December 1 to February 28, while students in grades 9 to 12 will have their break from December 11 to February 22. The SED has also mandated that all teaching faculty remain available for academic activities during the vacation period.
