Srinagar : A sensitization session was Wednesday organised for the members of the Flock and Fibre Sheep Farming and Wool Producers Cooperative, Achabal, Anantnag regarding the upcoming Wool/Pelt Processing Plant to be established under the JKCIP Project.
The session was chaired by Director, Sheep Husbandry Department Kashmir, Dr. Rafiq Ahmad Shah, who interacted with the cooperative members and emphasised the need for adopting improved practices in the wool sector. He highlighted that the new processing plant would serve as a pivotal facility for strengthening the wool economy of the region.
Dr. Shah further stressed the importance of developing value-addition infrastructure to enhance product quality, improve marketability, and create better livelihood opportunities for local sheep farmers and wool producers.
During the programme, experts from the department briefed participants on various technical and operational aspects of wool processing, including grading, cleaning, handling, and modern value-chain interventions.
The cooperative members actively participated in the discussions and shared valuable feedback to support smooth implementation of the project.
The establishment of the Wool/Pelt Processing Plant under the JKCIP initiative is expected to significantly boost local wool processing capacity and contribute to sustainable economic growth in Anantnag and neighbouring areas.
