Bandipora : District Administration Bandipora on Saturday observed Armed Forces Flag Day to honour serving soldiers, veterans, and the families of martyrs.

The programme was led by Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, and attended by officers from the Zila Sainik Welfare Office, district officers, ex-servicemen and Next of Kin (NOKs).

In her remarks, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised that our collective gratitude must reflect the depth and magnitude of the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces. She noted that soldiers remain on the frontlines, often in the harshest terrains and hostile environments, so that citizens may live in peace. She added that while symbolic gestures like the Armed Forces Flag Day hold immense emotional value, true gratitude must translate into consistent respect, support for veterans, timely resolution of welfare issues, and sustained recognition of martyrs’ families. Such gestures, she said, strengthen the moral bond between the administration and the defence community.

She remarked that while both civil services and the Armed Forces serve the nation, the lifelong bond within the forces, especially with ex-servicemen and families of martyrs remains unique and deeply rooted.

The DC further acknowledged that many personnel working in essential public service departments also make significant sacrifices in the line of duty. She said such contributions deserve recognition and appreciation from society.

Speaking on the occasion, the Zila Sainik Welfare Officer highlighted that the Armed Forces represent one of the oldest and most respected institutions of the nation, entrusted with safeguarding territorial integrity and maintaining internal stability. He added that contributions received from the public, irrespective of the amount, carry profound emotional value and reflect the collective gratitude of society.

Ex-servicemen and NOKs of martyrs interacted with the Deputy Commissioner and raised issues pertaining to welfare, support, and entitlements. The DC listened patiently and assured them of every possible assistance from the district administration.

Several ex-servicemen who have ventured into entrepreneurship following retirement also shared their experiences, reflecting on the challenges and opportunities of transitioning into civilian life.

Among others, the event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Zaffar Husson Shawl; ACR Bandipora, SDM Sumbal, ACD Bandipora, ACP Bandipora, District and Sectoral Officers from Civil Administration as well as Police.
