Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir continues to witness freezing temperatures with mercury plummeting below zero degrees Celsius in several areas of the regions, meteorological department said.
The department said that shallow to moderate fog is likely to persist at many places in Kashmir division and in isolated areas of the Jammu division in coming days.
Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.5 degree Celsius, while Qazigund and Pahalgam registered minus 2.4 degree Celsius and minus 2.2 degree Celsius respectively. Kupwara recorded minus 3.1 degree Celsius , Baramulla with minus 4.3 degree Celsius, Pulwama with minus 3.8 Celsius, Shopian minus 5.0 degree Celsius and Anantnag with minus 3.7 degree Celsius.
Other areas, including Gulmarg and Kokernag recorded zero degree Celsius and minus 0.6 degree Celsius respectively. The Srinagar Airport recorded minus 3.0 degree Celsius while Pampore registered minus 4.2 degree Celsius.
In the Jammu region, the minimum temperature at Jammu was 8.6 degree Celsius, Katra 8.5 degree Celsius, Kathua 8.2 degree Celsius, and Jammu Airport 9.0 degree Celsius.
Banihal recorded minus 0.5 degree Celsius, Bhaderwah with 0.9 degree Celsius, Batote with 4.8 degree Celsius, Udhampur with 3.6 degree Celsius, and Samba 2.6 degree Celsius. Other areas such as Rajouri, Kishtwar, Reasi, Ramban, and Doda registered minimum temperatures ranging from 2.2 to 6.5 degree Celsius.
The official figures further reveal that the Ladakh and Leh regions recorded minus 6.6 degree Celsius, Kargil with minus 4.8 degree Celsius and Nubra Valley recorded minus 5.0 degree Celsius.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has also forecast dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir on December 3 with partly to generally cloudy conditions expected from December 9 to 13.
“There is a possibility of brief spells of light snow at isolated higher reaches on December 4-5, 8, and 14-15 respectively,” officials said.
The officials have advised the residents to exercise caution while travelling due to fog and low visibility areas particularly in the Kashmir division.
They also urged people to take necessary precautions against cold, especially in higher altitude areas where temperatures remain significantly low
