Kargil: In view of the poor and unsatisfactory mobile and landline services of BSNL in Zanskar Sub Division, Executive Councilor for Zanskar Affairs Tenzin Sonam has called for taking up immediate corrective measures in this regard so that the public does not face further inconveniences.

During a meeting held at Council Secretariat Friday, the EC while taking serious notice of the people’s grievances with regard to the malfunctioning of mobile towers urged upon the General Manager BSNL Ladakh Circle to immediately send a technical team to Zanskar for prompt and early rectification of the problem.

The EC while expressing grave concern over the inconvenience faced by the people due to below average cellular and landline services in the area directed the BSNL authorities to augment their telecom set up beside raising manpower.

Sonam called for the immediate need to improve the overall functioning of the company, he said adding that BSNL being a public-sector company needs to become very focused and proper consumer-centric initiatives must be taken.

The issue of the much-needed restoration of the two mobile towers installed five years back also came up for discussion. The EC directed for the early functioning of these towers for which the General Manager suggested for installation of solar power plants for power requirements.

Later the EC directed the Project Director Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency (KREDA) to explore possibilities for the provision of solar power plants during the next financial year for round the clock operation of mobile towers in the area.

Meanwhile, it was decided that a team would be soon rushed to Zanskar via Pawan Hans Helicopter service so as to rectify the technical problems in mobile connectivity on the spot.
