Srinagar| Nov,10 : A Srinagar court has convicted former Sub-Inspector Jagdesh Singh for manipulating his birth year in official records to unlawfully extend his police service by two years, said a statement issued here on Monday by the Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir .
According to the official statement of the Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir the Srinagar court sentenced Singh to three years of simple imprisonment and imposed fines for his involvement in fraud and forgery-related offences. The case originated from a communication from the Police Headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir, which revealed that Singh altered his year of birth from 1957 to 1959 in official documents. This fraudulent modification was intended to gain undue service benefits. The investigation confirmed that Singh had changed his date of birth to November 10, 1959, in various service documents, including his Character Roll and matriculation certificate.
During the trial, the Economic Offences Wing presented substantial evidence and witnesses that established Singh’s guilt. The court found him guilty under multiple sections of the Ranbir Penal Code, including Sections 420, 511, and 468. The sentences, which include fines of ₹5,000 for each of the two main charges, will run concurrently. Additionally, failure to pay the fines will result in an extra six months of imprisonment. The Economic Offences Wing emphasized its dedication to investigating and prosecuting acts of fraud, forgery, or corruption, regardless of the perpetrator’s rank or position, ensuring accountability under the law.
