Jammu : The Government College of Education (GCOE) Thursday organized a Group Discussion led by M.Ed. students aimed at promoting awareness and inspiring quitting tobacco and other forms of substance abuse. The initiative is part of GCOE’s ongoing commitment to foster a healthy, responsible and drug-free campus environment.
During the discussion, M.Ed. students shared research insights, personal reflections and motivational strategies to help their peers overcome addiction and make positive lifestyle choices.
Participants engaged in an open and empathetic dialogue about the psychological, social and health impacts of substance use, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and peer encouragement.
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal Dr. Jyoti Parihar commended the efforts of the M.Ed. students for taking a proactive role in community well-being. “Education is not only about academic excellence but also about shaping responsible citizens. Such discussions empower students to support one another in leading healthy, purposeful lives,” she said.
The event concluded with students pledging to raise continued awareness about the dangers of tobacco and substance abuse and to extend peer support to anyone seeking help.
The initiative reflects GCOE’s dedication to holistic education, mental health awareness and youth empowerment, reinforcing the institution’s vision of building a healthy and compassionate learning community. The program was organized under the convenorship of Dr. Ramzan Ali (Convenor NCORD) Dr. Davinder Kour, Dr. Subhra Jamwal (NSS PO) and Prof. Deepali K Kundal.
