Srinagar: Police on Saturday apprehended Seventeen (17) long-time absconders from Srinagar, Pulwama, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Shopian districts & PD Sopore. These individuals had been evading arrest for years, some for over three decades.
According to a police statement issued here on Saturday in Srinagar police teams apprehended six long-term absconders, some of whom had been evading arrest for over a decade. Notable arrests include Mehraj-ud-Din Marazi, who had been absconding for 11 years under the NDPS Act, and Habibulla Bhat, who had evaded arrest for 27 years related to a case under the RPC. The police acted on specific intelligence, forming a special team that conducted targeted operations leading to these arrests, which were subsequently presented before the Hon’ble Court. In Pulwama, two additional absconders were arrested, including Ab. Salam Dar, who had been evading arrest for 25 years, and Mohd. Ayoub Tedwa, who had been on the run for 10 years. Both were apprehended following credible information and were also produced before the court after legal formalities. The police in Ganderbal arrested Lateef Ahmad Khuroo, who had been evading arrest for 27 years in connection with a case under the RPC. Similarly, in Shopian, three long-term absconders were apprehended, including individuals wanted for crimes dating back to the late 1980s. These arrests highlight the police’s commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring that offenders face justice, regardless of the time elapsed. In Kulgam, two absconders were arrested, one of whom had been wanted since 1984. The police successfully traced them based on credible inputs and completed the necessary legal procedures. In Sopore, two more absconders were apprehended, including one involved in a 24-year-old case.
