Srinagar | : Police on Thursday said that it has apprehended eleven individuals who had been evading arrest for several years in Sopore and Ganderbal, including two wanted in a 1999 criminal case.
According to a statement issued here on Thursday a police team from Police Post Bus Stand Sopore successfully apprehended Hilal Ahmad Siraj and Abdul Rasheed Siraj, both residents of Sidiq Colony Sopore, who were wanted in connection with Case FIR No. 311/1999 under Sections 376 and 109 of the RPC. The duo had been evading arrest since 2011 and were finally located and detained after extensive efforts. In a separate operation, Nazir Ahmad Beigh from Botingoo Sopore was arrested by Police Post Warpora for his involvement in Case FIR No. 120/2013 under Sections 379 of the RPC and the Forest Act, having been absconding since 2018. Following the completion of legal formalities, all arrested individuals were presented before the Competent Court, which remanded the two accused from the 1999 case to District Jail Baramulla, while the third was placed in Sub-Jail Sopore. In Ganderbal, police apprehended eight absconders linked to various criminal cases, some of whom had been evading arrest for decades. The individuals included Alam Din Khatana, Nazir Ahmad Takad, Mohd Lateef Takad, Mohd Shareef Khatana, Mohd Yaqoob Takad, Mohd Amin Takad, Mohammad Qasim Khatana, and Showket Ahmad Bhat, with charges ranging from FIR No. 84/1990 under Sections 451 and 366 of the RPC to FIR No. 21/2015 under Section 379 of the RPC. All eight accused were subsequently presented before the Court of JMIC Ganderbal for further legal proceedings.
