Pulwama: A complete shutdown was observed in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district to mark the second death anniversary of a local militant Omais Ahmed Shiekh.
Omais alias Abu Hamza son of Farooq Ahmad of Chatapora area of Pulwama town was killed on this day in 2015 during a gun battle with Government Forces at Ajas area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
His killing had sparked violent clashes in Pulwama leaving scores of protesters and at least two dozen policemen injured.
The call for shutdown was forwarded by local youths who had made announcements on mosques asking people and traders to observe shutdown in honour of the slain militant.
All shops and business establishments remained shut in the district while transport also remained off the roads.
Security personnel were deployed in large numbers to maintain law and order in the town.
